What a busy winter!

We have seen an increase in our referrals for support over the past 5 months, so the team have been busy helping new individuals to begin the journey of recovery and rebuilding their lives in Derby. Along with meeting new people looking for support, we have also been out and about meeting new organisations and building up our networks in the city and county. We have run a couple of activity groups with other organisations in the community as well as developing our new trauma informed coaching project, which launches this summer.

Fundraising update

Between March and May we were one of the Asda Green Token contenders, at the end of voting we were in second place which means we win £400!
Over the last weekend in May, we partnered with the Derby Lush store, to be their Charity Pot nominee. All proceeds from the sale of their Charity Pot range over that weekend was donated to Rebuild East Midlands. This was also a great opportunity for the team to be in the store raising awareness of the work of Rebuild in the community.

Help us to raise vital funds this summer
We have been successful in securing match funding from the National Emergency Trust, this means from mid-July for 4 weeks you can donate to the work of Rebuild and all donations up to the value of £250 will be matched pound for pound. Our target is to raise £5000 which when doubled would take us to £10,000. This will be instead of the Big Give campaign which we taken part in the last couple of years. We would love you to consider if you can give to our summer appeal when it goes live but we would also love for you to spread the word. We will be in touch at the beginning of July to tell you more

Groups...

Naila has been busy with a new and exciting Stress and Wellbeing group at Derby Women’s Centre. It has been great to talk to and share ideas with the participants of the group, reduce social isolation and discuss the ways we can keep ourselves well. In our last session we looked at the idea of ‘the masks we wear’. We talked about some of the things we may hide behind our 'masks' (our true self), and some of the things we appear as when we wear those masks, due to many reasons.

Earlier this year, we partnered with Upbeat Communities and delivered six Baby Sense sessions. Each session was designed around the senses in creative ways. The aim was for parents and their babies or toddlers to interact and play together along with others, in new ways as well as providing ideas to take away.
It was wonderful to see parents participating and having fun in these sessions with their children. The smiles and laughter was certainly contagious.

Our sewing group has been busy doing tie-dying, making drawstring bags, rucksacks, tassels, zipped and lined purses, and we are currently making bags to store our sewing machines in!

New Home, New Beginnings!

We recently had the pleasure of supporting one of our families in moving to their permanent home after a long wait in temporary accommodation. The family were very excited to finally have a place to call home. Their Rebuild Support worker was on hand to help. Lori* was very thankful for the support and told her support worker “it would be very stressful without you”.

But it doesn’t stop there… next on the list is decorating and we have been lucky enough to find a lovely group of volunteers to help the family add some colour and personality to their new home by joining us for a Painting Party day!

If you would like to volunteer with us, please contact Naila@rebuildproject.org and see our Volunteers page.
